Personal statement

Muhammad Irsyad Hasbullah is a PhD researcher at the University of Strathclyde, focusing on human-machine interaction and safety analysis in remotely operated Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS). His research looks at how to systematically identify risks and improve the interaction between human operators and autonomous systems, especially in the context of remote operation centres.

He applies methods such as Systems-Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA), model-based systems engineering (MBSE), and basic probabilistic tools to explore and support safer system design. His work is aimed at contributing practical insights into how complex maritime systems can be better understood and made safer during early design stages.

In addition to his research, Irsyad is involved in teaching support activities for marine engineering simulation and modelling. He is also interested in general topics around system safety, human factors, and risk analysis in engineering systems.
